Last Monday we had a lot of great feedback from our "what's good about Maine?" segment.

We want to expand this and really promote, "What's good about Maine."

Here is what we want to do.  We will start with community events, festivals, groups, projects and so on.  Tell us what makes your group special and how that promotes the goodness in our state.

Blog your message here.  Try to stay around 300 words or less.  We will have a poll and let the audience vote on their favorite and we will invite the one chosen to come in studio and tell us their story.

Good luck and thanks for making Maine such a great place to live.

I am writing as the founder and coordinator of the Maine Autism Resource Fair. On December 12th, 2001 my life changed forever when my daughter, Addie Mae, was diagnosed with autism at the Boston Children’s Hospital. From that very moment I vowed to learn and do all I possibly could to help Addie live a happy and productive life. If not for the kindness and generosity of my family, the people and organizations of Maine my daughter wouldn’t have progressed as far as she has. Outside of a few conferences, my education has been outside of Maine, where the cutting edge information can be found. I wanted to bring that knowledge back to the State of Maine for parents, teachers, therapists and all interested citizens. I am a firm believer that education is a key component in helping Maine’s families and individuals with autism. This is the only event of its kind.

I established the MAE (Maine Autism Education) Project. I am currently working on the fourth fair, which will be on October 11, 2008. The event will be held at the Augusta Civic Center. A keynote speaker, workshops and exhibitors are all available and at no cost to the attendees. This past year has been exciting. The keynote speaker is Dr. Vincent Carbone from the Carbone Clinic in Valley Cottage, New York. He is world-renowned and will bring a level of expertise that Maine rarely has experienced. Recently, the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism notified me, that I had been selected to receive their person of the year award for my creation and coordination of the fair, all which is volunteered. This was a

This was a New England based award, and I felt proud of the State of Maine for helping me with such an event. Meeting Mr. Flutie brought a sense of excitement, but when I extended my hand, and he extended his, I realized it was one parent thanking another parent for helping not only their child but also all the children and adults with autism.

I hope you’ll consider a vote for this event.
