Portland's 13 year old Babe Ruth All Star Team beat Windham 9-1 on Saturday for the District 4 championship.

The game actually started on Friday night before being postponed in the bottom of the 1st inning due to Thunderstorms that swepts through the Greater Portland area.

When the game resumed at 1PM on Saturday, Windham's Ryan Whiting was at the plate with a full count and no outs.

Portland put on a hitting display while Windham was only able to manufacture one run.

Portland will now play for the State Championship.

The U16 Boys Coastal Thunder made a valiant effort in the US Youth Region 1 Championships. They played Lower Marion Velez to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation. The score at the end of overtime had not changed so the U16 Boys championship and a ticket to the US Youth Soccer National Championship all hinged on the result of penalty kicks.

Lower Marion Velez connected on more PK's and advanced to the National Championships with a 4-2 victory.

Even though The Coastal Thunder did not become the first team to represent Maine at the US Youth Soccer National Championships, they represented Maine well as the U16 Boys State Championships. Congratulations on a great season!

We would love for all of the clubs whoe participated in the US Youth Soccer Region 1 Championships to send us pictures and stories from their experiences in the tournament. Send them to webmaster@mainesportspages.com

Amory Houghton slotted one past the TSF keeper and into the back of the net. to give the Coastal Thunder a 1-0 lead 21 minutes into the game. Less than 10 minutes after TSF scored, Rosner put a PK past the keeper for a 2:1 lead and an 80th minute free kick by Hoffman-Johnson put Thunder up 3:1 and into their seat for the finals where they will play Lower Merion Velez (PA-E) at 10:00 a.m.

There was a large group of supporters for the only Maine teamto make it to the semifinals and the same is expected today as the Coastal Thunder play for the US Youth Soccer Region Championship and a right to go on and play for the National Championship.
